Module 1: Approaching Adult Learning and Education. Lesson 1.

  • The first section will introduce you to what adult learning and education is. This section is divided into three lessons, what is adult education (Lesson 1), the significance and functions of adult education and learning (Lesson 2), and active participation in adult education in the context of lifelong learning (Lesson 3).

    Johanni Larjanko worked within non-formal adult education since 1997 in various capacities, including as communication officer for EAEA (The European Association for the Education of Adults) 1997-2013, communication officer for NVL (The Nordic Network for Adult learning) 2014-2018, and the editor of AED (Adult Education and Development journal) in 2013-2019. He has also been involved in several communications related projects and initiatives, including the development of InfoNet, and its offspring, training modules for adult educators in communication and information skills. Johanni has extensive experience as a trainer, was working for two Finnish tv-programmes for 5 years, is a national expert on adult education in Finland in various settings, providing analysis on trends and developments in Finnish adult education for the European Commission. Currently Johanni Larjanko is working at Bildningsalliansen in Finland.
