Alternate nostril breathing helps to cleanse the energy channels through which the life-force flows through your body. Two of the primary channels are connected to the left and right nostrils. Each nostril represents an opposite energy that needs to be balanced and harmonized in order to achieve optimal mental functioning and emotional control. This exercise also helps to stimulate the energy center located between the eyebrows that causes an enhancement in the capacity to focus and concentrate. This exercise can be viewed as a pre-requisite for meditation because it will enhance the ability of the practitioner to go deeper and to achieve a higher level of meditational proficiency.
