Empress imani is a Reggae Soul Singer, and Songwriter, Reggae Star Factor first runner up, Winner of Leeds Contribution to Black Music and Beffta Award Winner for Best Uk Reggae Act 2016.
Empress Imani has always had a passion for music and creative expression, spending much of her childhood on the beautiful island of St Vincent, she found her unique singing voice after being singled out for solo performances in community youth events, it has been said that her performance style is Soulful, Sassy, and Rootsy.
Her live persona, aided by the recording of "Rasta Love” in Spain has drawn international recognition from the UK to Spain, France Jamaica, and Zimbabwe.
Imani has been a requested feature at the Black Health Initiative’s Women’s Conference, and at the Leeds Civic hall where she was invited to sing for the Lord Mayor, other memorable experiences also include performances at the UK tour of Ex Black Panther member Bob Brown and the annual National Black People’s Day of Action , all the while front lining club showcases in and outside of the UK.
Major Highlights include The Legends of Reggae 2016 where Empress Imani supported the likes of Marcia Griffiths, Freddy Mc Gregor, Junior Reid, and I Octane from out of Jamaica.
She went on to be one of the main female Acts on the Uk Reggae Culturefest Tour with the great Luciano and Angola hit maker Jah Bouks, where she made quite an impact and left a lasting impression.
Her multi faceted skill set and unique talent enabled her to work with Leeds own Stone Roots band later taking to the big Stage to perform for Thousands at the Annual Leeds Reggae Festival.
As a recording artist, Empress Imani’s Reggae Roots popular iTunes Release "Conscious King" found its way to BBC radio 1xtra’s broadcast, supported by David Rodigan and DJ Target, since becoming an underground hit.
From the militancy of "Falling" to the soul searching melodies of "Warrior Solider", Empress Imani weaves a myriad of themes effortlessly into her repertoire.
She also graces the Royal Sounds Band on their “Ocean View Riddim” album with “System Down” also gaining international recognition and sending ripples right throughout the UK reggae music industry, and being featured on The BBC 'One show " after performing at the One Love Festival in Milton Keynes.
After being singled out for her music supported by Studio 12 Leeds, she was then directly involved in several Outreach Music Projects in connection with the 1Xtra Team, such as " Women in Music ", David Rodigan’s “Journey through Reggae" and BBC introducing” Live Lounge " where she was a Featured Act, as well as part of the line up for The 2016 Soul Acoustic Tour where she shared a stage with UK’s own Misha B.
Her latest single 'Pull up dat Reggae Tune ' supported by Alan Raw on BBC Radio Yorkshire entered into the hottest singles chart for 2016 and has been gaining momentum since its release.
